This is an extraordinary program that allows children to have a sense of accomplishment and rewards for the hardships they endure when undergoing treatment for cancer. Beads of Courage is an international programme with New Zealand's partner being the Child Cancer Foundation.
Children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path. Act of Courage Beads are the artist-made glass beads that are given to acknowledge the milestones in a child's treatment journey. Purple Hearts are given at the completion of treatment and are very special as they symbolise the child beating cancer. Butterfly beads are given to the parents of a child who has lost the battle with cancer.
I try to donate as many beads as possible to this programme. You can support the Child Cancer Foundation by donating or volunteering.
